British American Tobacco New Zealand is a wholly-owned subsidiary of British American Tobacco Australasia and is part of the world's most international tobacco group – British American Tobacco.

We are the leading tobacco company in New Zealand with a market share of approximately 75 per cent.  132 permanent staff are employed at our headquarters in Auckland and regional offices throughout the country.

British American Tobacco Australasia Group companies employ approximately 1,795 full time employees.  More than 1,054 are employed in Australia alone with New Zealand and Papua New Guinea the next two largest employers.  Companies within the Group produce just over 18 billion cigarettes in factories in Australia, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, the Solomon Islands and Samoa. 

Market share

Market share obviously fluctuates from time to time in each market, however across the three main businesses in the area, approximate market shares are:

  • New Zealand: 75 per cent
  • Pacific Islands: 100 per cent
  • Australia: 45 per cent

This positions British American Tobacco Australasia as the market leader in the Australasia area.
